We all suddenly have a lot of time on our hands. And while productivity might be tough to muster as the world comes to a standstill, when else will we ever get a chance to pause our daily activities and focus solely on accomplishing our goals?
We will likely never have time like this again.
So whether your goals are career-related, home-oriented, or involve developing long-coveted skills or hobbies, let’s make the most of this time and come out of this period feeling better than we did going in.
Set the Goal
This may sound obvious, but to accomplish something, you need to identify what it is. Without a clear objective, you’re just waiting to start.
Sit down with a notebook and your favorite beverage and make a list of everything you want to accomplish. Then review and organize this brain dump into larger objectives and smaller, manageable action items.
Pull the ideas out of your head so you can see them more clearly. All that you want is more related than you think.
Don’t Look Back
The trick to accomplishing anything is to keep moving forward.
Try to do something — no matter how small — toward your goal everyday. Every step counts. In fact, dividing it up into small steps can help you to overcome the barriers of tackling large tasks.
For example, let’s say you want to build your own blog, but have been putting it off for years because it seems like such a huge endeavor. Break it down into smaller chunks like registering a domain name, choosing a design theme, writing home page copy, writing your first blog post, etc. Give yourself a small task to achieve every day — or at least every few days. Once you build that momentum, you won’t want to stop!
Don’t Hesitate to Ask for Help
Sometimes, the fastest way to meet an objective is to be humble enough to admit that you don’t know how to get started, or what to do past a certain point.
Remember that you can always ask a mentor for advice or a friend for assistance. The more energy you have directed toward your aim, the easier it flows.
Go Hard But Don’t Forget to Take Care of Yourself
Pushing yourself too hard might get you to the finish line faster, but it always leads to burnout. That’s why nothing is more important than self care.
Simple things like getting enough sleep, eating a balanced diet and plenty of exercise allow you to show up as your best self. You’re on a mission so don’t let yourself down.
